Therapy That Empowers

Dental Phobia

It is normal for most people to feel a little uneasy about visiting the dentist. However, dental phobia—often categorized as a specific phobia related to medical environments—represents a much deeper level of anxiety that can significantly impact your well-being.

Phobias are persistent, intense fears that can develop at any age. While some are manageable, others can seriously disrupt your daily life.

Dental phobia often manifests as an intense dread of the office or even small reminders of dental work. Many individuals find themselves avoiding necessary appointments entirely, even when they know it may lead to negative health consequences. When a visit is unavoidable, it is often endured with extreme stress or a sense of terror that can make it difficult to receive proper care.

How We Will Work Together

My approach is collaborative and paced to your comfort. I see myself as an educated guide, but I recognize that you are the ultimate expert on your own experience. You always retain full control and agency; if a particular direction feels wrong, I encourage you to share that so we can honor your needs and pivot our approach together.

A Graduated Path to Success

We won’t rush into your biggest fears. Instead, we use Graduated Exposure to create a “hierarchy” of feared situations and use EMDR to process them. We start with the least distressing scenarios, building your confidence and “wins” before moving to the next level.

Throughout this process, I will frequently remind you that you are in the driver’s seat. We go at your speed, ensuring you feel supported and safe every step of the way.
