Therapy That Empowers

Social Anxiety

Living with social anxiety often feels like a constant, heightened awareness of those around you, creating a lingering sense of being observed or evaluated.

This internal pressure often shows up physically through a racing heart, blushing, or a mind that momentarily goes blank, making it difficult to feel fully present. Because social interactions can feel so taxing, there is a natural tendency to seek the safety of solitude; however, this retreat leads to a sense of isolation and strengthens social anxiety. This creates a cycle where the exhaustion of navigating social spaces makes the next outing feel even more daunting.

Social anxiety often has roots in the early parts of our history, frequently stemming from unprocessed experiences that left us feeling out of control.

Social anxiety can also result from a combination of having a naturally sensitive and empathic nature, while growing up in an environment that did not provide the emotional warmth or security you needed. When your natural ability to feel deeply isn’t met with the right support, the world can start to feel like a daunting place to navigate.

In our work together, we approach this with a gentle and holistic toolkit designed to help you feel safe in your own skin again. I use EMDR to help process those heavy past experiences, easing their grip on your present. I also incorporate Graduated Exposure—a gradual facing of your fears—to help you take small, brave steps at a pace that feels manageable for you to break the vicious cycle of social anxiety. Finally, we integrate parts work to listen to the different voices within you, honoring the parts of you that are trying to protect you while helping them find a sense of peace. My hope for you is to find a sense of belonging, safety, and ease in social situations.
